Between Mise en Place and Craftsmanship: Kaya & Kato at Restaurant Setzkasten

...

Behind the scenes of a special place

A supermarket is a place for everyday life. The restaurant Setzkasten shows that everyday life does not have to end there. That it can be thought of on a larger scale and that the ordinary and the exceptional can naturally come together.

Between wine shelves and delicacies, EDEKA Zurheide creates a space that feels calm, precise and intentional, where a special culinary experience becomes part of everyday life; at Restaurant Setzkasten, daily routine and high standards are not opposites. They belong together.

The cuisine of Egor Hopp is defined by clarity and precision. Every movement is deliberate and every detail carefully considered. What appears on the plate is the result of experience, finesse and an uncompromising commitment to quality. At the same time, influences from his Kazakh roots flow into his cooking, memories of dishes, aromas and shared meals with his family. These influences give his Michelin-starred cuisine something familiar and grounded: a sense of togetherness, warmth and genuine hospitality.

This same commitment to quality and functionality shapes our work at KAYA&KATO. We develop workwear for demanding everyday environments. Heat, movement and pace are all part of it. Clothing needs to perform, endure and stand up to daily wear. At the same time, this kind of hard work deserves a certain standard: aesthetics that function and craftsmanship that leaves no room for compromise.

Thinking bigger also means thinking responsibly. Materials, construction and fit determine how long a product can be used and how well it performs in everyday life. For us, longevity is not a side effect, but part of the design process.

...

For us, it is always special to go where our clothing is actually worn. Into kitchens where every movement matters. To see teams working in it, to see how seamlessly our pieces integrate into their routines and to hear how they feel wearing them. That is where good design proves itself.

Perhaps the collaboration felt so natural because we share the same mindset. The ambition not to simply accept everyday life as it is, but to shape it consciously. With precision, clarity and an attention to detail that makes all the difference.

Thank you to Egor Hopp and the entire team at Restaurant Setzkasten for this insight.
